Lodge History

Our Club was officially opened to members and Guests in 1971 and is amongst the oldest of the ski clubs on Mt Hotham.

The Club was originally formed by staff of BHP.  The staff principally came from the BHP Melbourne Research Laboratories and a few from Headoffice.

Originally 34 members clubbed together and raised funds mutually to acquire a lease of land in the Davenport Estate.  A team of club members designed the lodge and once the drawings had been completed the engagement of a builder was financially out of the question.  So all of the members pitched in and constructed the lodge with loving care over a two year period.  All the framework was pre-fabricated in Melbourne and transported up on semi-trailers.

The members have continued to maintain the lodge in good condition and the now 22 members and many visitors enjoy a lovely lodge in winter and in summer, centrally located in snowfields which we consider are the best in Australia.
